3800 Tons! The Largest Pressure Vessel In Asia Was Shipped Smoothly At Watts Base In Qidong, Jiangsu


On the morning of March 6, 2021, the Asia's largest 3,800-ton raffinate tower, jointly manufactured by China Petroleum First Construction Co., Ltd.and Jiangsu Watts Energy & Engineering Co., Ltd., was successfully delivered at Watts Energy loadout jetty. The leaders of Guangdong Petrochemical, China Petroleum First Construction and Watts Energy witnessed this exciting moment at the scene!


It is understood that the raffinate tower delivered this time is the core equipment of the 2.6 million tons/year aromatics combinedplant of Guangdong Petrochemical. It will be shipped to the Dananhai Petrochemical Industrial Zone in Jieyang, Guangdong Province for overall hoisting. It will be combined with other equipment in the plant area. Matching, desorb the p-xylenefrom the adsorbent, and separate the raffinate through rectification at the same time. The tower is about 117 meters high, with a maximum outer diameter of 14.09 meters, a maximum wall thickness of 145 mm, a net weight of 3940 tons, atransfer weight of about 4370 tons, and a hydrostatic test weight of 16,600 tons. It is the heaviest steel petrochemical tower in Asia.


The project started in August 2020. In order to ensure timely and high-quality delivery within a very tight construction period, the project team innovatively adopted the method of prefabrication in sections,overall assembly of the assembly platform, and overall completion. Before the start of the project, several design, production, quality and other departments have been organized to conduct program discussions, and a detailed manufacturing program and quality and safety assurance measures have been formed. During the manufacturing process, 11 key technologies including super-large tower circumferential submerged arc welding technology, large-diameter thick-walled cylinder section hydraulic jacking technology, and equipment cylinder automatic opening technology were used to ensure the smooth implementation of the project.

In recent years, more and more refining and chemical companies, including Hengli Petrochemical, Zhejiang Petrochemical, Hainan Petrochemical, etc. When bidding for super large pressure vessels, enterprises require the entire factory to be manufactured. If the manufacturer does not have the ability to manufacture super large pressure vessels, it will lose a large amount of the market. In this regard, large pressure vessel manufacturers are concerned about the unit weight of equipment exceeding 1,000 tons. The manufacturing technology of large pressure vessels, especially the overall manufacturing technology of the factory, is paying more and more attention.


China Petroleum First Construction Co., Ltd. undertook the manufacturing task of the raffinate tower of the 2.6 million tons/year aromatics combined plant of Guangdong Petrochemical in November 2019. The equipment specifications are Φ13800/Φ12500/Φ9900× 116075×145/100/90/75 ,Material Q345R, its maximum nominal inner diameter is 13.8 meters, the maximum wall thickness is 145 mm, and the net weight of the equipment has reached 3940tons. It is currently the largest tower in Asia. The contract requires the equipment factory to be manufactured and transported as a whole. The manufacturing processes of this equipment, such as blanking spheronization,butt welding, post-welding heat treatment, pressure test and hoisting and transportation, are different from ordinary pressure vessels. We have a comprehensive grasp of the manufacturing technology of such super-large pressure vessels and successfully completed the raffinate tower.
